YOU'RE COOKIN' IT COUNTRY
By Loretta Lynn (Rutledge Hill Press, $24.99)
Back on the charts with "Van Lear Rose," produced by Jack
White of White Stripe, Lynn has entered a new phase of her
career. And after so many losses, from husband Doolittle to
friends Johnny and June Carter Cash, she has a right to get
sentimental.
So when Lynn sat down to write her recipes for her kids, she
ended up with so many stories that it became a cookbook.
I usually avoid celebrity cookbooks -- just because you can
sing or act doesn't mean you can cook. But give Loretta
credit. She won a whole chestful of blue ribbons for canning
back in Washington state, before she became a star. She fed
a family of six kids. And then, there were all those Crisco
commercials. She really knows how to cook.
