Wall Street Journal Reviews Van Lear
Rose
As the first tentative strums reel you
into Loretta Lynn's first album in four
years, and her voice leads you into the
heartfelt, folksy narrative that is "Van
Lear Rose," the most startling facet of
the sound is not the guitar textures of
her improbable collaborator, White
Stripes man Jack White.

Loretta's on the "Cool List"
Loretta is #10 (of 40) on "The Cool
List" in the current (October 4) issue
of SPIN... Loretta's listing reads:
Why her: On her recent album with
producer Jack White, the 69-year-old
Lynn sings a song about a betrayed
housewife waiting to go to the electric
chair for murdering her husband
("Women's Prison"). This makes her the
female Johnny Cash. Or Johnny Cash the
male Loretta Lynn.

Loretta in Charleston's Post and Courier Newspaper
August 09, 2004
How do you break the ice with Loretta Lynn, one of the
greatest country music singers of all time? Why, you talk to
her about “The Dukes of Hazard,” of course. That popular
early ‘80s television show has a Lynn connection. In
February of 1980, the singer starred in an episode titled
“Find Loretta Lynn!” The plot involved a trio of bumbling
crooks who kidnapped Lynn (whose tour bus had made a detour
into Hazard County) and held her for $1136.15 in ransom.
