PORTER WAGONER
1927-2007
Heaven's a lot brighter tonight, 'cause one of country
music's greatest legends have gone up. Of course, my dear
friend Porter's star will have more sparkle than most, since
that's the way he always was here on earth! An original can
never be replaced, and that's just what he was. Porter was a
gift to country music, and that gift will live on through
his music. As with all of his family, friends, and fans, I
will miss him so much.

LORETTA LYNN 'WOMAN ENOUGH' TO TACKEL
TABOOS, TELL IT LIKE IT IS
By Laurie Granier
It's easy to dismiss Loretta Lynn's subversive side.
After nearly 50 years recording and touring, the
plain-spoken singer-songwriter who grew up poor in Kentucky
and delivered four kids by her 18th birthday has taken her
place in the pantheon of country-music legends.

'YOU HAVE TO WRITE FROM THE HEART'
By GEORGE LENKERA
Few country music purists probably raised their eyebrows
when Loretta Lynn hired rocker Jack White to produce her
2004 CD, "Van Lear Rose," but they need not have worried.
"It is the most country album I ever made," Lynn said with a
laugh in a telephone interview last week. "The rock guy came
in and made it a lot more country than any other record I've
done." more! |

LORETTA'S PSA WINS TELLY AWARD
Loretta and People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals won
a
Telly Award for their PSA that addressed the
cruelty of chaining dogs. Loretta Lynn donated her classic
song "I Wanna Be Free" to PETA for a PSA reminding everyone,
"Life on a chain is no life at all." The PSA, an appealing
animated spot set to Lynn's music and urging people to take
dogs off chains and let them indoors, can be viewed by

LOVE FLOWS FOR LORETTA LYNN
By PRESTON JONES
Star-Telegram Staff Writer
Like Frank Sinatra at the Sands in Las Vegas, Loretta Lynn
onstage at Billy Bob's Texas just feels right.
The queen of country music dazzled a rowdy packed house
Saturday night, beginning her 70-minute set on the receiving
end of a deafening standing ovation, as camera flashes
popped furiously.

SPARTANBURG TREATED TO COUNTRY ROYALTY
By JOSE FRANCO
The Kentucky Derby might have had the Queen of
England this past weekend, but Spartanburg had the Queen of
Country Music.
Loretta Lynn performed before a near sold-out crowd at the
Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium Saturday night.
Lynn, who wore her hair up, dazzled the almost 3,000 fans at
the venue in a sparkling rhinestone gown that she liked
twirling. more! |

"WILL YOU VISIT ME ON SUNDAY" Marty's new
Compares' CD compiles 14 various duets he's recorded with other stars on assorted albums over the years. One of the two new collaborations is this dynamite, mournful wailer with the fabulous Loretta. When they open their throats together on the choruses, you're in the presence of country majesty. This classic Dallas Frazier song has been recorded by many, including Charlie Louvin, Merle Haggard and George Jones, but it has never sounded better than it does here. Turn it up and shout, "Hallelujah." |
