THE 50 BEST ALBUMS OF THE DECADE: VAN LEAR ROSE
Paste Magazine
When this decade began, the Paste website was barely a year old, and the magazine was still a twinkle in its daddies’ eyes. So looking back over the first 10 years of the 2000s feels like looking back over our own history. There hasn’t been a new album Paste has covered that wasn’t eligible for our “Best of the Decade” consideration.

LORETTA LYNN STILL A HONKY-TONK GIRL AT HEART
by
Marianne Horner
In 1960, Loretta Lynn
and her husband, Dolittle, worked tirelessly to earn her
first hit single -- 'I'm a Honky Tonk Girl' -- by driving
around the country in their car, visiting radio stations.
Fifty years later, Loretta is still doing that. But these
days, she gets to pick and choose when, where, and how
often. more!

WEARING HER CROWN LIGHTLY: LORETTA LYNN, COUNTRY QUEEN, RETAINS HER JUST-FOLKS APPEAL
Picture the Coal Miner’s
Daughter at home, chatting with a reporter for the umpteenth
time in her career.
"I have my hair tied up in a fat towel," Loretta Lynn, 74,
reveals. "I put a rinse on it."
The homey warmth and down-to-earth honesty you’d expect from
this Nashville icon are much in evidence, even over the
phone. But Lynn sounds slightly scattered at the moment,
less than an hour before a scheduled rehearsal.

LORETTA LYNN HAPPY TO BE ‘COAL MINER’S DAUGHTER’
Christa Lawler, Duluth News Tribune
It is impossible to mention country
music icon Loretta Lynn without referring to “The Coal
Miner’s Daughter,” the book she wrote, the movie starring
Sissy Spacek, the song about Lynn’s life — growing up one of
eight children, in poverty, in a small Kentucky town.
And it’s a reference Lynn is content to hold on to:
“It was my life,” Lynn said in a recent phone interview.

HEART POUNDER
San Diego Weekly Reader
Back in November of ’97, I was doing a live broadcast from Nashville. It was the day before the Country Music Awards. It is a crazy and massively fun, long day — a cattle-call of country stars, big and small, who move from table to table, station to station doing interviews in one big room.
I’d done so many artist interviews in my radio career, this type of day was a walk in the park for me…until she showed up.
