Cindy Watts – Tennessean

Loretta Lynn
, Ronnie Milsap, Little Big Town, Keith Urban, Brad Paisley and Martina McBride were on hand Tuesday night to honor the Country Music Association as the organization was presented with Leadership Music’s eighth annual Dale Franklin Award during a gala dinner at the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Nashville.

“One of the best things about being mayor is getting to say things like this: Thank you CMA for what you do for our city year after year,” Nashville Mayor Karl Dean said early in the evening. “Thank you for making our city a destination for visitors from all over the world.”
The evening was filled with video presentations featuring highlights of the CMA’s 40-year history as well as memorable performances from Lynn and Milsap of their biggest hits and contemporary artists singing classic songs, including Little Big Town on Kris Kristofferson’s “Why Me Lord,” Urban’s version of the Glen Campbell classic “Wichita Lineman” and Paisley’s energetic interpretation of Buck Owens’ “I’ve Got a Tiger by the Tail.”
CMA Board Chairman Steve Buchanan accepted the crystal award from Leadership Music board President Jamie Cheek.
The evening concluded with an all-star performance featuring McBride, Paisley and Little Big Town on “Will the Circle Be Unbroken.”
